Some would say the definition of cruising is fixing your boat in exotic places. Other define it as long stretches of tedious boredom mixed with moments of panic.
Since leaving Seattle almost eleven months ago, I think it's a combo of the two. Everything is mellow, sailing along in a 10 knot gentle breeze, the tedious boredom phase.
Then you notice the travler track is lifting off the deck. That's not supposed to happen!
Easy fix, but give minutes into the repair the wind increases to twenty knots. Now you're in the brief panic phase.
There's a third definition of cruising, that's not often discussion. That's fixing your boat in exotic places while leaning over at 20 degrees hanging on with both hands while attempting to repair something that takes two people and five hands.
Repairs made, wind drops, and your back cruising, thinking "That wasn't so bad" 😁
Cruising is also defined as fixing your boat in exotic places during moments of panic. As well as the feeling of success that comes from each phase of cruising.
