I bid a sad farewell to the Octopus Islands. Because we had to time going through Upper and Lower rapids in Okisollo Channel and knowing that there would be adverse current in Johnstone Straight, I stopped for about 3 hours in Otter Cove near where Discovery Passage meets Johnstone Straight. The plan was to anchor in Nolly Goat Bay on Helmken Island. Unfortunately when I got there the bay proved to be an untenable anchorage, too small and much too unprotected. The next option was Kelsey Bay on Vancouver Island, but as luck would have it the Government docks were filled with fishing boats, so it was off to somewhere else. As it was getting late we opted for Blankensop Bay across the Straights on the mainland. Again fate was not going to be kind as a front rolled in and I anchored in 35 feet with the wind blowing 17 to 20 knots. We were able to get WaterLou rafted up and secured and we finally sat down to dinner at about 2100 (9pm). It was a rolly night until the front passed and the wind finally subsided. Next stop?
